Twisting Your Knees Causes Pain
Why is twisting your knees wrong? The simple answer is friction. The result of this twisting and friction with your foot on the ground, is the tension on the ligaments in the ankle and the knees.

In this Tenpo Tip, Coach Andre explains why exactly twisting your knees is causing knee pain.

Modern tennis players have been taught a technique which requires them to twist or rotate their feet, ankles and knees.  But why is this wrong?

The simple answer is FRICTION!

  • Twisting and rotating causes friction between your feet and the ground.
  • The result of this friction is the pulling on the ligaments of the ankle and knee.

The knee is a hinge joint specifically evolved for flexion and extension. The ligaments are attached vertically which means it is designed to move in the vertical plan.

Twisting your knees causes pain because of friction. The simple biomechanical fact is our knee is a hinge joint and has not evolved to operate in this manner on a consistent basis.

If you twist your knees, it's not a matter of if you are going to have knee pain; it is when!
